Ambitions and vision
Mycroft Mind aims to revolutionise energy grid management through autonomous edge AI, enabling on-site machine learning directly on low-power devices. By developing embeddable, self-adaptable AI modules that operate without significant demands on communication lines or power consumption, we're creating the foundation for truly smart energy grids that optimise renewable energy usage and support Europe's decarbonisation goals.
Our vision centres on transforming distributed energy resource management through precise PV production and consumption predictions, intelligent EV charging systems, and close collaboration with Distribution System Operators and component manufacturers. We're building a gap-filling technology that makes AI accessible, self-adaptable, and autonomous, even on constrained devices. This integration of energy intelligence at the edge will enable more efficient grid operations, increase local consumption of renewable energy, and accelerate the transition to a decarbonised energy landscape.
Technical fields
Mycroft Mind's project focuses on the development of eBORT, an ultra-lightweight machine learning technology that outperforms neural networks for edge applications. Unlike conventional edge AI solutions that require cloud training, our algorithms enable on-site machine learning on low-performance microcontrollers, allowing devices to adapt to their specific environments without requiring significant hardware resources or cloud connectivity.
The technology addresses critical challenges in today's IoT landscape by enabling predictive analytics and energy flow optimisation directly on devices. Our embedded AI module library, execution environments, and reference designs will work across multiple chipset architectures, making advanced edge intelligence deployable not only in new devices but also in existing field installations through firmware updates.
Beyond technological development, Mycroft Mind provides comprehensive support, including solution integration, performance monitoring, and training programs for operational teams. Its dedication to research and innovation ensures continuous advancements in AI models and the deployment of new capabilities to address emerging industrial challenges.
